The IWC Portugieser Chronograph Boris Becker ref. IW371430 is one of the most distinctive limited editions in the modern Portugieser line because it combines the purity of the classic 3714 chronograph design with a very specific commemorative identity. Produced in 2005 in a run of just 250 pieces, the watch was created to mark the twentieth anniversary of Boris Becker’s Wimbledon victory in 1985, and that connection is carried not only by the special engraving on the caseback but also by the watch’s unusual green color scheme. Within the Portugieser family, that alone makes it stand apart, as most examples are known for silver, black, or blue dials rather than this deeper and more individual tone. What makes the watch especially successful is that the edition-specific elements never disturb the essential balance of the Portugieser Chronograph. The large open dial, Arabic numerals, feuille hands, and vertical twin-register layout remain exactly what makes the 3714 one of IWC’s most enduring modern designs, while the green dial gives the watch a richer and more personal identity. The commemorative caseback adds another layer of character, but the overall impression remains elegant rather than promotional.
