Introduced as a two-tone alternative to the all-steel GMT-Master, the ref. 1675/3 earned its "Root Beer" nickname from the warm brown-and-gold tones of its bezel insert — a departure from the tool-watch austerity of the original 1954 design, created at the request of Pan Am for pilots flying transatlantic routes across multiple time zones. This 1979 example, identified by serial 5873285, sits in the mature production run of the 1675 case, before the transition to sapphire crystal and quickset date that arrived in the following decade.

The stainless steel and 18k gold Rolesor case pairs with a matching two-tone Jubilee bracelet, while the dial has taken on a rich, even brown patina that plays beautifully against the gold-tone Mercedes hands and applied indexes — the kind of organic aging collectors actively seek out rather than avoid. Powered by the automatic calibre 1575, a movement prized for its robustness and 42-hour reserve, this GMT-Master remains as capable a travel companion today as it was over four decades ago. The watch is delivered with all items shown in the photographs.
