The Patek Philippe Aquanaut Travel Time “Advanced Research” ref. 5650G-001 from 2017 is one of the most technically significant modern Aquanaut references. Limited to 500 pieces and crafted in 18k white gold, it brought the Advanced Research programme into the sporty Aquanaut family for the first time and made its innovation visible through the open aperture at 9 o’clock. The blue embossed Aquanaut dial, matching composite strap and 120-metre water resistance keep the watch firmly rooted in everyday sports-watch territory, while the exposed micro-engineering gives it a uniquely experimental character.
Inside is the automatic calibre 324 S C FUS, equipped with two major Advanced Research innovations: a Spiromax balance spring with inner boss for improved isochronism and a compliant steel mechanism for the Travel Time correctors. This system uses the elasticity of steel rather than a traditional articulated construction, reducing the time-zone correction mechanism from 37 components to 12. This example is offered in unworn condition as a full set with its original Patek Philippe box and papers, strongly supporting the rarity, provenance and collectability of this 5650G-001.
