The Rolex GMT-Master ref. 1675 from 1966 is one of the most attractive points in the entire history of the vintage GMT-Master because it combines the early visual language of the model with the stronger and more practical case design of the crown-guard generation. The glossy black gilt dial, the red GMT hand, and the faded Pepsi bezel give the watch exactly the kind of layered warmth that collectors search for in the best early GMTs. It still feels very much like a true tool watch, built for pilots and travel, yet the gilt printing and glossy surface add a richness that later matte-dial examples do not have in quite the same way. This is why 1966 watches occupy such a special place: they sit at the end of the gilt era, when the reference still retained much of its early charm but had already become the fully recognizable GMT-Master 1675. What makes the 1675 so enduring is the fact that its appeal comes directly from function. Rolex created the GMT-Master for long-distance flight, and the 24-hour bezel with dedicated GMT hand gave pilots an immediate way to read a second time zone. In this early steel configuration, that purpose is expressed with unusual clarity. The watch remains compact, balanced, and highly legible, while the movement and case architecture are robust enough to support everyday use even by modern standards. A 1966 example brings together nearly everything enthusiasts want from a vintage GMT-Master: early character, strong design, and the unmistakable presence of one of Rolex’s greatest travel watches. Our watch, featuring a magnificent lacquered dial with gilt writing, has developed a perfectly uniform “eggshell” patina across both the dial and hands. The blue section of the bezel has faded to a washed blue-grey tone, while the vivid red has softened into a raspberry hue. The overall balance of the patina is truly exceptional. Also what's very rare these days, it comes on its original riveted Oyster bracelet. The watch comes with it's original Vintage box and Rolex official service papers from 08/2022
