While the world associates the Ellipse silhouette with Patek Philippe, the shape's origins are shared: both houses drew on the same designer's sketches in the late 1960s, and Audemars Piguet took the concept in its own, more expressive direction. This white gold example, circa 1980, embodies that maximalist streak — a diamond-set bezel frames a dial engraved with a dense floral guilloché pattern, finished with an applied AP monogram and dauphine hands, while an intricately woven white gold bracelet completes the case with jewellery-like fluidity rather than the tool-watch practicality of AP's sportier lines.
