The reference 1516 is one of Patek's early Calatravas, introduced in 1941 and built around a 32mm case whose lugs fold partly over the caseband, the detail that separates it from the better-known reference 96. This example is cased in rose gold, scarcer than the yellow gold in which most 1516s were made, with a silvered dial carrying applied Roman numerals at the quarters, baton indexes and a subsidiary seconds register at six.
Behind the snap back runs the manually wound calibre 12-120, an 18-jewel movement finished with fausses côtes and, on many examples, swan-neck micrometer regulation. It is a quiet, formal watch from Patek's post-war years, the kind of Calatrava that reads as a piece of its era rather than a modern interpretation of one.
