The American 1921 is Vacheron Constantin's beloved driver's watch, first made for the US market in the 1920s with the whole dial rotated on the diagonal so a hand on the steering wheel could read the time without turning the wrist. This is a rare, off-catalogue execution of it: cased in platinum rather than gold, and fitted with a grained silver dial carrying green Eastern Arabic numerals, a nod to Vacheron's long relationship with collectors in the Middle East.
The combination is what makes it special. Platinum is the quietest of precious metals, the numerals are unlike anything on a standard 1921, and behind the dial runs the in-house calibre 4400 AS with the Hallmark of Geneva and nearly three days of reserve, visible through the sapphire back. On a green alligator strap with a platinum buckle, it is a discreet rarity, an American 1921 as few will ever see.
The watch is delivered with all items shown in the photographs.
