Introduced in 1988, the reference 16528 marked the first automatic-movement Daytona in yellow gold, built around the caliber 4030, a Zenith El Primero base substantially reworked by Rolex with a new escapement and reduced beat rate. Collectors call these "Zenith Daytonas" for that outsourced heritage, a chapter that closed once Rolex moved to its fully in-house 4130 caliber in 2000.
This example wears a champagne dial set with factory diamond hour markers, paired with the black-ringed subdials and tachymeter bezel typical of the model. The gold case and bracelet, sapphire crystal, and Superlative Chronometer certification make it a distinctive alternative to the more common steel Daytonas from the same era.
