The reference 16520 is the most important turning point in the Daytona's history: after twenty-five years of hand-wound chronographs, Rolex finally made the Daytona automatic. To do it, the brand took what was widely held to be the finest series chronograph movement in the world, Zenith's El Primero, and rebuilt it, replacing well over half its parts to create the calibre 4030. The result is the watch collectors call the "Zenith" Daytona, and the reference that turned the model into the icon it is today.
This is an early example, circa 1993 to 1994, with the white "panda" dial. In the 40mm steel Oyster case with screw-down pushers and engraved tachymeter bezel, it is one of the most collectible neo-vintage Rolex references.
