The GMT-Master was introduced by Rolex in 1954 for airline pilots, who crossed time zones faster than any watch had been made for. It solved the problem with a fourth hand that goes around the dial once in 24 hours and a rotating bezel marked with 24 hours, so that a second time zone could be read without any calculation. Seventy years later, that idea is still the reason the model exists.
The Sprite is the version that changed the layout. The bezel combines green and black Cerachrom, and the crown and the date window have moved to the left side of the case, which Rolex had never done on a GMT before. The reference carries the calibre 3285, which runs for about 70 hours and is certified as a Superlative Chronometer, behind a black dial with hands and markers that glow blue in the dark. This example is from August 2026 and is a full set, with its box, papers and warranty card.
