The nickname ‘Root Beer’ goes back to the vintage two-tone GMT-Master, whose brown and gold colours collectors compared to the American soft drink. At Baselworld 2018, Rolex brought that look back in a modern form with the GMT-Master II ref. 126715CHNR, made entirely in 18k Everose gold. The bezel is the notable change. It is a two-tone ceramic in brown and black, the first time this colour scheme appeared on the model, with the 24 numerals in Everose gold. Everose is a Rolex alloy, introduced in 2005 and cast in its own foundry, which contains platinum to keep the pink colour from fading over time.
This example dates from 2022 and has a 40mm case and an Oyster bracelet in 18k Everose gold, with a black dial, Everose gold hands and Chromalight indices. It is powered by the calibre 3285, which beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour and has about 70 hours of power reserve. The bracelet closes with an Oysterlock safety clasp and has a 5mm Easylink extension. The date sits under a Cyclops lens, and the second time zone is read with the arrow-tipped 24-hour hand against the bezel.
