Rolex introduced the Cosmograph Daytona in 1963 for racing drivers, and the tachymeter bezel still lets you read average speeds up to 400 units per hour. At Baselworld 2017 the line gained a sportier precious-metal option: three gold Daytonas fitted with the Oysterflex, the strap Rolex had first introduced on the Yacht-Master in 2015. It is not simple rubber. Flexible titanium and nickel alloy blades run inside a high-performance black elastomer, with cushions underneath that keep it stable on the wrist.
This 2021 example is the white gold version, known among collectors as the "Ghost" for its monochrome mix of polished white gold, a steel-grey dial, black subdials and a matte black Cerachrom bezel. The red "Daytona" above six o'clock nods to vintage references. Inside is the in-house caliber 4130, a column-wheel chronograph with vertical clutch and about 72 hours of power reserve. It was the last Oysterflex Daytona generation to use this movement before the 126519LN switched to the 4131.
