The cuvette of this watch is engraved "Quarter & Minute Repeater" and signed Jaccard & Cie, Genève. The Jaccards were a Swiss family of jewellers who ran celebrated stores in St. Louis, and their Geneva house commissioned high-grade complicated watches, many for the American market. Documented Jaccard repeaters of this kind were built on movements by LeCoultre & Cie of the Vallée de Joux, the Grande Maison that became Jaeger-LeCoultre, so beneath this dial very likely sits LeCoultre work from the turn of the century.
It is a minute repeater: a slide in the case sets two hammers striking the time on gongs, the hours, the quarters and the minutes, a feature born in the years before electric light let you read a dial in the dark. At 57.5mm and over 150 grams of solid 18k gold, it has real presence in the hand, its white enamel dial carrying Roman hours, Arabic minutes, a subsidiary seconds and blued steel hands, the hinged back opening over a guilloché, signed cuvette. It has been fully revised and is in working order.
The watch is delivered with all items shown in the photographs.
