Rolex built the 116506 in 2013 to mark the Daytona's 50th anniversary, and it broke new ground twice over: the first Daytona cased in 950 platinum, and the first with a Cerachrom ceramic bezel, here in chestnut brown with an engraved tachymeter scale. The ice blue dial is the detail collectors read first, because Rolex reserves that colour exclusively for its platinum watches. It sits softer and cooler than the blue dials found on steel and gold Daytonas, and it quietly signals the metal underneath.
The tri-compax layout in contrasting brown is driven by the calibre 4130, Rolex's in-house chronograph with a column wheel, vertical clutch and roughly 72 hours of reserve. The case keeps the anniversary design honest with a solid caseback and screw-down pushers, and the platinum Oyster bracelet closes on an Oysterlock clasp. Discontinued in 2023 in favour of the 126506, this remains one of the most sought-after modern Daytonas.
