The reference 5059 combines two distinct traditions in one case: the perpetual calendar complication that automatically tracks short months and leap years without adjustment, and an "Officer's" style hinged case back, a design borrowed from military pocket watches that springs open at a touch to reveal the movement rather than requiring tools. Rather than a conventional date window, the date is shown by a hand sweeping a 240-degree retrograde arc, snapping back to the start at the close of each month.
This example is cased in 18k rose gold, with a white enamel dial, Roman numerals, and day, month, and moonphase displays arranged around the retrograde date scale. The caliber 315/136 carries the Geneva Seal, finished with Côtes de Genève visible through the hinged sapphire back. Fitted to a brown alligator strap with rose gold Calatrava Cross deployant clasp, it represents one of Patek's more historically minded takes on the perpetual calendar.
