he Speedmaster was introduced in 1957 as a racing chronograph, and it was its qualification by NASA in 1965 and its presence on the moon in 1969 that made it the Moonwatch. For decades that name belonged to a hand wound watch. From 2008 Omega also built the same design with a self winding movement and its coaxial escapement, an invention of the English watchmaker George Daniels that the house brought to series production in 1999.
This reference, made from 2008 to 2013, is the watch for the collector who wants the familiar profile with more modern machinery. Calibre 3313 is a column wheel chronograph with a date window and a chronometer rating, and the sapphire back lets the movement be seen, where the hand wound Professional of the period keeps it behind a solid back. The case of 44.25mm is larger than the 42mm of the Professional, so it wears with more presence on the wrist.
