This F.P. Journe Octa 38 MM Automatique in rose gold is a highly distinctive expression of the early Octa family, one of the most important collections in the history of the independent manufacture. More precisely, its dial configuration corresponds to the Octa Réserve de Marche, combining automatic winding, large date, small seconds, off-centre time display and a 120-hour power-reserve indication. It is a watch that immediately reflects François-Paul Journe’s personal approach to horology: technically intelligent, visually unconventional, and deeply coherent in its construction. The 18k rose-gold case gives the watch a warm and refined presence, while the balanced proportions keep it elegant on the wrist. Its polished bezel, sculpted lugs and sapphire display back create a strong but restrained profile, allowing the dial and movement to remain the real focus. The dial is especially attractive. Its grey tone has a unique texture, giving the surface more depth and character than a flat silver dial. This subtle grain and tonal variation interact beautifully with the rose-gold case, the blued steel hands and the off-centre architecture of the display. The dial layout is one of the defining features of the model. The large date sits high on the dial, the power-reserve scale occupies the left side, and the hours and minutes are displayed on a separate guilloché subdial to the right. Beneath it, the small seconds adds another layer of visual rhythm. The result is asymmetrical but never accidental; each indication has its own purpose and space. This is what gives the Octa its particular identity: it feels designed from the movement outward, with the dial serving as a direct expression of the mechanics beneath. Visible through the sapphire caseback is the calibre 1300-2, an automatic movement made in 18k rose gold and fitted with a 22k gold guilloché rotor. This is an important detail for collectors, as the 1300-2 belongs to the desirable gold-movement period of F.P. Journe production. The movement offers approximately five days of power reserve, a central achievement of the Octa concept, which was conceived as a stable automatic calibre capable of supporting multiple complications without changing its essential dimensions. This rose-gold Octa Automatique / Réserve de Marche is therefore much more than a practical automatic watch. It brings together the key elements that define F.P. Journe’s early identity: long autonomy, precious movement construction, asymmetrical display, strong mechanical logic and a design language unlike anything else in modern independent watchmaking. With its rose-gold case, grey textured dial, calibre 1300-2 and unmistakable Journe architecture, it is a charismatic and highly representative example of the Octa line. Offered as a full set with its original box and papers.
