The Breitling Navitimer Ref. 806 1959 Re-Edition is one of the most convincing vintage-inspired chronographs of the modern era because it was conceived not as a loose tribute, but as a serious historical reconstruction. Introduced in 2019 as Breitling’s first major historical re-creation, it was designed to reproduce the most coveted early Navitimer look with remarkable precision. The 41 mm steel case follows the dimensions of the 1959 original, the all black dial revives the tone on tone tri-compax layout, and even small details such as the unsigned winged logo, the highly domed Plexiglas, and the vintage style lume color were handled with unusual care. That attention to accuracy is what gives the watch its strength. It feels far closer to a true period instrument than to a conventional heritage model. What makes the watch especially important is that it combines that visual fidelity with a thoroughly modern mechanical base. Inside is the manually wound calibre B09, a COSC certified chronometer derived from Breitling’s manufacture 01 family and developed specifically for historical re-editions. With a power reserve of approximately 70 hours, it gives the watch a level of usability that the original 1959 model never had, while preserving the hand wound character that is essential to the spirit of an early Navitimer. Limited to 1,959 pieces, the 806 1959 Re-Edition stands as one of the most successful modern Breitlings because it captures exactly what made the original so great: purpose, precision, and one of the strongest dial designs in all of aviation watchmaking.
