The A. Lange & Söhne Lange 1 Time Zone ref. 116.032 is one of the most elegant dual-time watches of the modern era because it adds a genuinely useful travel complication without disturbing the identity of the original LANGE 1. Introduced in 2005, it preserves the model’s signature asymmetrical architecture with its outsize date, off-centre main dial, and power-reserve display, but enriches it with a second time-zone display, a city ring, and separate day/night indications for both home and local time. The result is a watch that feels far more sophisticated than a conventional GMT, yet remains immediately legible and unmistakably Lange. In pink gold, the 116.032 has a particularly warm and classical character. The solid-silver dial with gold appliques, blued-steel accents, and the characteristic large date gives the watch the rich visual depth that defines the best early Lange 1 references. Inside, the manually wound calibre L031.1 reinforces that impression with 417 parts, 54 jewels, and a 72-hour power reserve, giving the watch the mechanical gravitas to match its complex display. The Lange 1 Time Zone is special because it is not only a travel watch, but a very distinctively Saxon interpretation of one: technical, architectural, and deeply refined. Offered as a full set with box and papers from 2007.
