In the 1940s and 50s Cartier made watches for women that were jewellery first and instruments second, the dial reduced to a small square almost hidden between gem-set shoulders. This is a fine example of that Retro aesthetic: a lady's cocktail watch in 18k yellow gold, its silvered dial signed Cartier framed above and below by shoulders set with calibré-cut blue sapphires and round brilliant diamonds.
The case flows into a woven "brick" gold bracelet, so the whole piece reads as a bracelet with a watch concealed within it, exactly as intended. Cartier's jewelled ladies' watches of this era were made in small numbers, closer to bespoke jewellery than to series production, which is much of their charm.
The watch is delivered with all items shown in the photographs.
