Most people know Hermès for leather and silk, but the house has made watches since the 1920s and has produced them in its own Swiss workshops in Biel since 1978. The Sésame Squelette is one of its most horologically confident pieces: a round gold dress watch whose movement is fully openworked, so the bridges, wheels and barrel are on show straight through the dial, with only the Hermès Paris signature and a pair of blued hands between the eye and the mechanism.
Cased in gold at a measured 36mm on a leather strap, it wears quietly until you look closely, at which point it becomes a small window onto the craft of movement finishing, the components brushed, polished and decorated by hand. It is Hermès taking watchmaking seriously, an understated piece that rewards a second glance.
