The Golden Ellipse has kept the same brief since 1968: an elliptical case whose proportions trace the golden ratio, roughly 1 to 1.618. Patek revived it in this enlarged rose gold form in 2018 for the model's 50th anniversary, pairing the warm case with an ebony black sunburst dial on an 18k gold plate, its applied baton markers and hair-thin cheveu hands both in rose gold. The result is deliberately spare, a dress watch that lives on contrast and shape rather than detail.
The slim profile, 5.9mm and the thinnest watch in Patek's catalogue, comes from the calibre 240, an ultra-thin self-winding movement whose 22k gold micro-rotor sits recessed in the mainplate rather than on top of it. Two hands, no complications, and a crown capped with a black onyx cabochon. Patek even offered matching rose gold cufflinks with an ebony sunburst inlay for this reference.
