The Rolex GMT-Master ref. 1675 “Nipple Dial” from 1977 is one of the most charismatic expressions of the vintage GMT-Master because it combines the practical architecture of Rolex’s long-haul travel watch with the richer, more decadent feel of a precious-metal case and dial furniture. In this black-dial configuration, the watch takes on a very different tone from the brown “Root Beer” executions often associated with the reference. The black dial gives it greater contrast, more visual tension, and a more overtly instrument-like character, while the applied gold “nipple” markers preserve the warmth and opulence that make these gold 1675s so distinctive. The result is a watch that feels both purposeful and unmistakably luxurious, a combination few vintage Rolex references achieve as naturally. What makes this 1977 example especially appealing is that it still belongs fully to the classic, pre-quick-set GMT-Master era.
