The Rolex Explorer ref. 14270 was introduced in 1989 as the successor to the long-running ref. 1016, bringing the model into the modern era with a sapphire crystal, applied white-gold indexes and the in-house automatic calibre 3000. Produced until 2001, the reference went through several dial generations, and this 2000 example carries the late "Swiss Made" dial with Super-LumiNova lume, the final and most refined execution before the 14270 was replaced by the 114270.
The 36 mm stainless-steel Oyster case, glossy black dial and Explorer's signature 3-6-9 configuration give the watch a clean, versatile character that suits both everyday wear and more considered use. Powered by the COSC-certified calibre 3000, it offers dependable chronometer-rated timekeeping in a compact, no-nonsense package. This example is accompanied by its original box and original papers, a combination that adds meaningful provenance and strengthens its appeal on the collector market. Combined with its late Super-LumiNova dial and complete documentation, this 14270 represents one of the most desirable configurations of the reference.
