Daniel Roth founded his own house in 1989, after years of work at Breguet, with the backing of the Swiss trading house Siber Hegner. He gave it a signature that no other maker used, a double ellipse case of his own design, and in the first years the movements came from Lemania. In 1994 The Hour Glass of Singapore took control of the company, and in 2000 it sold the name to Bulgari. The watches from the Vallée de Joux in the 1990s are therefore the independent chapter of the brand, made while Roth’s own taste still decided every line.
The T157ST-PL belongs to that chapter. The salmon dial is engine turned, with a horseshoe shaped chapter ring that opens at six to make room for the date, and the Roman numerals and the blued hands with luminous arrow tips give it a quiet, classical face. Next to the many gold pieces the house made, a steel case with a salmon dial is the understated choice. The case back is closed, and behind it runs the automatic calibre 157.
