The Patek Philippe Reference 3970ER-012 is a refined example of classical haute horlogerie. Completed in 2002, it is presented in a 36mm case crafted from 18-carat rose gold and fitted with a sapphire display back that reveals the manually wound calibre CH 27-70 Q. This movement, built on a highly reworked Lemania base, powers a perpetual calendar with leap-year indication, a moon-phase display, and a traditional column-wheel chronograph, a combination that reflects Patek Philippe’s most celebrated complications. The silvered dial offers a harmonious layout with day and month beneath the signature, balanced chronograph registers, and a moon-phase embedded within the date subdial. This example features English calendar indications, giving it a distinct and elegant character. As the successor to the historic 1518 and 2499, the 3970 occupies a central place in the lineage of Patek Philippe’s perpetual calendar chronographs. Produced between 1986 and 2004 in four series, this watch belongs to the final iteration, recognisable through its sapphire caseback and refined finishing details. It is completed with a matching rose-gold folding clasp. Accompanied by its original box, certificate of origin, manual, and complete documentation, this watch stands as a fully preserved and highly desirable example of one of Patek Philippe’s most important modern classics.
