The Patek Philippe 5960P 001 is the original Annual Calendar Chronograph in platinum and one of the key modern references from the brand, because it introduced the combination of an annual calendar with Patek’s in house self winding chronograph architecture. The 40.5 mm platinum case has real physical presence, balanced by a dial that stays unusually legible for the complication set: day, date and month are displayed in three apertures across the top, with power reserve at 12 and a 24 hour day night indication. The chronograph is defined by the monocounter at 6 o’clock that consolidates elapsed minutes and hours, and by a central chronograph seconds hand designed to run continuously thanks to the vertical clutch construction. With sapphire front and display back and 30 metres of water resistance, the 5960P 001 sits in the small category of complicated Patek references that were engineered to be worn regularly, not only reserved for formal use.
