The Patek Philippe 5070P is the final and, in many respects, the most resolved expression of the reference that reintroduced the pure chronograph to Patek Philippe’s modern catalogue. By the time this platinum version appeared in 2008, the 5070 had already established itself as a watch of unusual scale and confidence for the manufacture, but the 5070P sharpened that identity further. The platinum case gives the design greater gravity, while the metallic blue dial transforms the model’s already strong architecture into something distinctly cooler, rarer, and more self-assured. With its applied white-gold Arabic numerals, stepped bezel, broad dial opening, and clean twin-register layout, it has the kind of presence that feels both emphatically modern and deeply rooted in Patek Philippe’s mid-century chronograph language. What makes the 5070P especially important, however, is the movement inside. The calibre CH 27-70 represents the last great chapter in Patek Philippe’s use of the Lemania 2310 base, one of the most respected classical chronograph architectures ever made. Yet in this watch it is far more than a borrowed ébauche: Patek Philippe states that nearly all supplied components were modified or replaced, the torque curve was optimized, and the movement was finished to Geneva Seal standards while preserving the column-wheel, horizontal-clutch construction collectors admire so much. With a power reserve of approximately 60 hours, the 5070P stands not only as the most exclusive regular-production 5070, but also as one of the most important pre-in-house Patek chronographs of the modern era. Offered as a full set with original box and papers.
