The Tank Louis Cartier needs no introduction, but this version earns one. Launched for Cartier's 170th anniversary and sold only in Europe as a limited edition of 170 pieces, the WGTA0121 is cased in solid platinum and carries an Art Deco blue dial arranged in a rectangular, multi-tone pattern that shifts from soft to deep blue as the light moves. Its dial revives a 1995 Cartier limited edition that was itself a homage to the 1925 Paris Exhibition of Decorative Arts, so the design carries almost a century of lineage.
The classic Tank proportions are all here, the brancard case, the Roman numerals, the ruby cabochon set in the crown, now with rhodiumed steel sword hands to match the platinum. Behind the dial runs Cartier's manufacture calibre 1917 MC, hand-wound, in keeping with the purest expression of the model. It is one of the most quietly special Tanks Cartier has made in recent years.
