Created by Aldo Cipullo for Cartier in New York in 1969, the Love bracelet made a piece of hardware into a statement of commitment. Its two functional screws are tightened with a small screwdriver, so the bracelet is meant to be fastened by someone else. The idea proved so enduring that Cartier later added a version with a single screw and a hinge, allowing the wearer to put it on alone.
This example is the classic 6.1mm model in 18k white gold, in size 20. Cartier advises adding one to two centimetres to the wrist measurement, which makes this size a natural fit for a wrist of roughly 18 to 19cm and a strong option for men. The inside is signed Cartier and stamped with the size, the Au 750 gold standard and the maker's mark.
