Aldo Cipullo designed the Love bracelet for Cartier in New York in 1969 and turned the humble screw head into one of the most recognisable motifs in modern jewellery. The idea is taken literally: the bracelet closes with two functional screws and a small screwdriver, so it takes a second person to fasten it. Cipullo also designed Juste un Clou, and in 2011 Cartier revised the closure so the screws stay attached to the bracelet instead of coming out completely.
This example is the classic 6.1mm model in 18k rose gold, size 17. Cartier advises adding one to two centimetres to the wrist measurement, so it suits a wrist of roughly 15 to 16cm. The inside is signed Cartier and stamped with the size, the Au 750 gold standard and the maker's mark.
