Abraham-Louis Breguet set up his workshop in Paris in 1775, and two of his habits still show on every Breguet dial. One is the engine turning, the fine patterns cut into a metal dial by hand, and the other is the slim blued hand with a small open circle near its tip. Both are on this watch. The dial is signed “Guilloché Main”, which states plainly that the pattern was cut by hand.
The patterns are the reason to look at it twice. A checkerboard texture fills the centre, a different grain runs around the minute track, and the two subdials carry a wave pattern of their own, so one silver dial holds three textures. The chronograph is the part that is easy to miss. It has a centre seconds hand and a counter at 3, with two slim pushers on the side of a rose gold case, but nothing on the face shouts about it, and it reads as a dress watch first. The movement is a manual winding chronograph, and it can be seen through the display back.
