From the late 1960s Piaget made a signature of the hardstone dial, cutting the faces of its dress watches from tiger's eye, lapis, onyx and coral, each one unique in its grain. This lady's watch, circa 1970s, is a fine example: an oval 18k yellow gold case with a finely engraved bezel, framing a tiger's eye dial whose warm chatoyant banding shifts with the light, marked only with slim applied gold batons and the Piaget signature.
The whole piece flows into a woven 18k gold bracelet in the maison's soft mesh, and behind the stone sits Piaget's ultra-thin calibre 9P base, the hand-wound movement that made the brand's name for slimness and let it turn its attention to cases, bracelets and dials like these. It is warm, tactile Piaget at its most wearable.
